Building D is one of the two volumes of the former Montello barracks, renovated and transformed into an integral element of the new campus of the arts. The first intervention of functional recovery, rapidly implemented by the DARC ensured the continuity of the MAXXI’s cultural activities and exhibitions during the construction of the new museum. Based on the criteria of “minimal intervention”, the restoration of Building D has restored the original spatial qualities of the interior rooms, re-establishing the unity of the two great halls. A second, ongoing intervention will be completed at the same time as the inauguration of the MAXXI.
At the end of the works, the building will house articulated spaces for different functions, increasing the activities of the new museum and emphasizing the multi-disciplinary and polyfunctional dimension of the new campus: multimedia library, bar-restaurant, bookshop and new management and administrative offices. |
