This project documents the construction of the new
home of the MAXXI in a series of photographic images taken on a monthly basis since 2006 by Roberto Galasso, the Institution’s photographer. The images, a selection of which are presented here, capture the technological aspects of the construction site, the building techniques, the materials and the equipment used to construct the museum. The images are taken based on a preordained system: four fixed points are used to describe the progress of construction, together
with other mobile images taken around the site.
Once again photography proves itself to be the
unrivalled tool for describing architecture, in line with
its documentary function and aesthetic qualities.
The photographs – taken with a digital reflex camera –
have been made possible by the generous assistance
offered by labourers, technicians, architects and all
those who work each day to complete the museum.
